Terms of Service

Last updated 18 June 2026.

The short version. Translate is provided by Baobab Tech and is free to use for non-commercial social impact and humanitarian purposes. You keep ownership of what you put in and get out. Machine translation can contain errors — review important translations before relying on them. The service is provided "as is."

This page covers the rules of using the service. For what data we collect and how we handle it, see the Privacy Policy.

1. Acceptance & eligibility

By using Translate you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. The service is intended for users aged 18 or over, or 16+ with guardian consent where permitted. If you use Translate on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you're authorised to accept these Terms for it.

2. The service

Translate is a machine-translation tool. It is assistive — not a certified, sworn, or professional human translation service — and is not a substitute for human translation where accuracy is legally or operationally critical. (How translation works and where your data is processed is described in the Privacy Policy.)

3. Free use & acceptable use

Translate is free to use for non-commercial social impact and humanitarian purposes, including by humanitarian, non-profit, academic, and public-interest users. Free use is subject to fair-use rate limits and quotas, which we may adjust to keep the service available to everyone. Anonymous use is allowed for a small number of text translations per day; beyond that, and for document translation, a free account is required. Commercial or high-volume use beyond these limits is available by arrangement — contact support@baobabtech.ai.

4. Accounts & API keys

You're responsible for activity under your account and API keys, and for keeping keys secret. Don't share keys or attempt to circumvent rate limits or quotas. We may suspend access for abuse or to protect the service.

5. Prohibited uses

You agree not to use Translate to:

6. Your content & ownership

You retain ownership of the text and documents you submit and of the translations you receive. You grant us only the limited licence needed to process your content to provide the service — to translate it and to store your documents so you can download them. How we handle that data — including that we don't sell it or use it to train AI models — is covered in the Privacy Policy.

7. Machine-translation disclaimer

Machine translation — even domain-tuned and memory-grounded — can contain errors, omissions, or mistranslations. Review and, where appropriate, have a qualified human verify translations before using them for medical, legal, safety-critical, or other high-stakes purposes. You're responsible for decisions you make based on the output.

8. Warranties & liability

The service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, and we don't guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Baobab Tech is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for losses arising from reliance on translations. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law. Consumers retain any mandatory protections under their local law.

9. Changes, governing law & contact

We may update these Terms; material changes will be notified in-product, and continued use means acceptance. These Terms are governed by the laws of Alberta, Canada, without prejudice to mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence. Questions? Contact support@baobabtech.ai.
